Chairman Celebrates Anniversary as UN Ambassador

The Chairman of AIAA will, this month, celebrate his one year anniversary as Ambassador and Permanent Observer of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the United Nations in New York.  One year ago he presented his credentials to the Secretary General of the UN, His Excellency Antonio Guterres.  During that period Ambassador Beresford-Hill has attended the 74th Session of the General Assembly and has given addresses at numerous high level gatherings of diplomats and global leaders. Among these was the World Day for Education, when he spoke of the need for more attention to the educational needs of refugees and those children who, through no fault of their own, are migrants in foreign lands and need both compassion and understanding to enable them to reach their potential.  He has also given interventions focussing of the global dimensions of human trafficking, and contributed to the recent UN declaration on human rights.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is a Catholic humanitarian organization which has the status of a state, and whose headquarters are located in Rome, Italy.  Following a history of over 900 years, the organization currently operates health care, refugee services and humanitarian support programs in over 124 countries, and maintains diplomatic relations with 112 nations.
